History of the International Hindu School
The site of the International Hindu School has a long history of education. One of the old wings of the Pareni Block used to have a Sanskrit Pathshala 200 years ago.
In the early 1990s Dr. Suman Kumar Mishr bought the property from Shree Umesh Dhandhania, one of the owners of Annapurna Mills also known as ‘Ghanti Mill’.
The beautiful property around 4 acres is in the middle of Varanasi city is in historical Nagwa. Lanka.
Varanasi is the oldest living city in the world. It is the Rajdhani (capital) of Education, culture and Hindu Religion.
Suman Kumar Mishr started the International Hindu School in 1996 to repay the debt to the motherland. Education is the best gift one can give to anybody.
The school is focused on quality education and in 2007 became affiliated with CBSE. The institution has been growing each year with some thing new to offer each year.
The IHS has over 1800 students, 80 teachers, and over 150 employees. It offers four languages, including English, Hindi, Sanskrit, and German. There are four streams, including Science, Humanities, and Commerce. It is the only private school offering Agriculture as an optional subject in the Varanasi area.
Mr. Prashant Shukla, one of the International Hindu School teachers, interviewed many Nagwa residents about the name Nagwa.
Nagwa is a spiritual region located in the heart of Varanasi. Some residents say it got its name because it’s always been a place of Naga sanyasis, but this is a myth.
An authentic Pauranik reference confirms that this place was once inhabited by Nag-vanshi Kshatriya, who owned vast lands near the River Ganga. One of their known properties, Nagpur Kothi, still exists at Assi.
According to Nagvanshavali (1876), Nagvansh started in 1st century AD. The first Nagavanshi ruler was Fani Mukut Rai. His father was Pundarik Nag from Taxila and his mother was Parvati (a Sakaldwipiya Brahmin girl) from Varanasi. It is quite probable that the name of the current Nagwa is based on this history.
